Blog: Newark Mayor Cory Booker Sees The Other Side Of Social Media

This past week a lighthearted humorous video featuring Newark, New Jersey Mayor Corey Booker and New Jersey Governor Chris Christy appeared on You Tube.  It garnered over 300,000 views in five days. Many people found it refreshing, considering all of the political rhetoric coming forth from both sides in this election year.  Comments on the video include statements  in the vien of “I am a Republican, but I do admire Booker for the job he has done” and “I agree. President Obama in a recent campaign stop said that “he forgot” how bad the economy was when he took over the Presidency in 2009 from George W. Bush. This of course was an attempt to harken back to how bad things were when he took over, but the National Republican Congressional Committee has taken “I forgot” and are using it to their advantage.  Using the hash tag #ObamaForgot along with statements ”the unemployment rate has been above 8% for 39 straight months” and “that American families are struggling under the weight of the $5 trillion he added to the national debt”.  The campaign seems to be gaining a small amount of traction with NRCC followers re-tweeting in low double digits, and followers are… Read more
